Our party starts off the day with going to the tavern to look if there are any jobs on the job board. But it's empty. But the tavern owner welcomes them with open arms as last night something seems to have gotten into his basement. He asks if they can get rid of it without destroying to much. They come to the agreement to check it out and resolve it. In exchange of no payment but a first hand of all jobs that people hang on the job board. The tavern owner tells he already has a job he can give them after they helped him.
Quest: Clear out the basement of the tavern
So our party goes down into the basement to check it out. A dark room, clinging to the roof of the room is a giant spider. The party tries to deal with it. But it's not alone. Hidden between a couple of barrels is a second giant spider. They manage to kill both. 1 of the spiders is taken into the abys by a spell. The other dead body remains. And without to much of an issue. Only 2 triangular burn marks on the floor and ceiling and 2 broken bowls. Clarity tries to repair the bowls. It results in some art object that is not suitable for liquids anymore.
Quest completed: Clear out the basement of the tavern (Rep +11)
After the tavern keeper hands them a letter (Letter from Malrick) from a strange traveler that is called Professor Malrick. The tavern owner however can't tell them where he is holding up. But tells them that he might be very easy to spot. As he looks very particular. White trashy hair, a monocle and carrying books.
The party returns to their HQ. Inform Clockett of their earned business and Clockett hands them a form (12-PC - Pest Control Incident Report (1))
They also discuss their next business with Professor Malrick. And if he knows anything about him. Clockett doesn't but he can always send in a message to Acquisitions Incorporated HQ to see if they can help. They decide to send a message to Jim Darkmagic. After a show wait Clockett gets a reply that Jim will be joining them soon. A few seconds later Jim Darkmagic appears within their Headquarters. He is very intrigued of the notice that their might be some magical items or stuff. So he tells them that it would be very useful if Acq Inc could investigate magical items first.
The party asks if their are allowed to kill Professor Malrick. Jim looks around and tells Clockett to shutdown. He seems to shutdown. And Jim agrees that if needed Professor Malrick can be kill so the magic items could be in the hands of Acq Inc. The party likes that in writing.
Jim asks Clockett to start up again and write up a K-007 form (K-007 - Client Elimination Authorization (1)). Jim doesn't know any information about this Professor Malrick. So they head into the town to try and find him.
They find him and tell him that they are able to help. They also agree on selling the dead body of the giant spider for 5GP and 5SP. But not now, after the deed is done. They agree on gathering in an hour in front of the tavern. Nodi however tries to follow Professor Malrick but not really hidden. So he is getting told off.
The party preps a little and then leaves with the horse and cart. Halfway towards the tavern they hear the service bell ring of their Headquarters. David McDougal flies back... But finds no one. Clockett is watching the bell very closely. And tells he has not seen anyone ring it. David McDougal asks Clockett to keep an eye on it. So he does.
The party travels into the woods with Professor Malrick. They camp overnight. Nothing much happens in the night aside from a cat that seems to have found them. He is kind of adopted.
The next day the find the tower that Professor Malrick spoke about. Once inside the door smashes closed behind them. They find food marks leading to a stair in the back of the bottom floor. Professor Malrick however sets up his gear while the party starts searching the rest of the tower.
On the second floor there are arcane whisp that form into people. One of the party members sees that his parents are dead on the floor. But is slapped out of it.
On the next floor they seem to find 4 people wearing Hexcorp uniforms around a magical circle chanting. They try to get inside as silent as possible but someone faceplants into the door and 2 of the Hexcorp people try and defend what is happening. Stating that the party should kept out of the circle. But the people of Hexcorp are weak and 3 of them are killed in the first round. Everyone runs into the magic circle except for one. But he is shoved into the circle by non other than Professor Malrick.
He says “You’ve been most cooperative. Hexcorp thanks you for testing our containment protocols. Do try to struggle — the results will be fascinating.”
